The following reading is given as a general introduction to the theme  of the whole unit: 
  Twentieth Century Mariology - An Overview

The following materials expand the understanding of Mariology in the 20th Century

Papal Documents on Mary: These papal documents give a perspective of devotion to Mary as it is held by the church within the context of the 20th Century. Each enclyclical builds upon the tradtions of the past, and each sets out different elements of that tradition. The documents are important as a way of grasping the background to and experience of traditional Marian devotion and doctrine.

  Fulgens Corona - proclaiming a Marian Year to commemorate the centenary of the definition of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.gives historical background on devotion to Mary
  Ad Caeli Reginam - Proclaims the feast of the Queenship of Mary and summarizes the history of  devotion to Mary as Queen
  Munificentissimus Deus - Proclaiming the doctrine of the Assumption

  Mater Et Magistra - On Christianity and Social Progress.. important for prelude to Vatican II
  Pacem in Terris - again an important text from John XXIII

Paul VI

  Christi Matri - On prayers to Mary for peace
  Mense Maio - On praying to Mary in May
  Marialus Cultus - Paul VI’s emergent Mariology and challenge to theological enquiry on Mary. An important text for study and reflection.
